Competition: Premier League
Market: Nigel Pearson to be next Aston Villa manager
Odds: 4/1 @ Betfair
Aston Villa are reportedly close to axing manager Remi Garde following a run of poor results in charge, and the Claret and Blues hierarchy are seeking an experienced British coach to lead them to promotion from the Championship should they go down. Former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson is said to be interested.
Villa are currently rock bottom of the Premier League table with 16 points from 31 games this season, winning just three times for their troubles. They’re on course to finish the campaign with one of the lowest ever points tallies, and their relegation could be confirmed in a matter of weeks.
As a result, they want a manager who has experience of the Football League and has the ability to take a club back to the Premier League. Pearson did this with Leicester City after missing out on the playoffs a year before, and he’s currently a free agent after last summer’s departure from the King Power Stadium.
Pearson isn’t the only manager being lined up by the Midlands outfit, but he certainly fits the bill of what they’re looking for. As a result, Betfair are giving odds of 4/1 for the former Leicester boss to be the next manager making the switch to Villa Park.
