Former Manchester United left-back set to sign for Vitesse

Former Manchester United defender Alex Buttner is close to completing a return to Vitesse Arnhem, the club he had played for before he moved to the Premier League giants, according to Dutch media reports.

Buttner made over 100 league appearances for the Dutch club between 2005 and 2012 and is now ready to return to GelreDome as a replacement for Kosuke Ota, who is set to join FC Tokyo.

The 27-year-old Alex Buttner has been a free agent since last month after the termination of his contract with the Russia side Dinamo Moscow. The Netherlands international defender Buttner struggled to gain his footing with the Russian side having only played 24 league matches for Dynamo Moscow.

He was sent out on loan at Anderlecht in 2016, but the left-back only played 14 matches for the Belgian heavyweights.

Buttner will sing a two-and-a-half-year deal that will see him remain with Vitesse until the summer of 2019.
