Competition: World Cup Qualifier
Market: France to win against Bulgaria
Odds: 1/7 @ Bet 365
Euro 2016 finalists France welcome Bulgaria to the Stade De France on Friday evening for their second World Cup European Qualifier. Les Blues have bounced back well after their Euro 2016 final defeat and will fancy their chances of picking up all three points against Bulgaria to leapfrog the current Group A leaders and potentially replace them at the summit depending on other results.
France come into Friday’s qualifier off the back of a win and a draw in their last two games in all competitions, and boast 10 victories from their 13 games in 2016. Didier Deschamps men haven’t lost a game in 90 minutes this year, and have dispatched of giants such as Portugal, Germany, Netherlands and Italy among others. They are currently joint-fourth in Group D with a point from their opener – having drawn away to Belarus – and could end the evening top of the pile with a big win.
Opponents Bulgaria are surprisingly leading Group D with three points from their opening game. The visitors won against Luxembourg to move two points clear at the summit, but they could come unstuck this week given their poor defensive record and gulf in class between them and France. Bulgaria have conceded 14 goals in their last three games so they might struggle to keep a strong French side quiet.
Two defeats in their last three in all competitions sees Bulgaria still vulnerable, especially as the travelling side to a France outfit who haven’t lost at home in 90 minutes for well over a year. Victory for Bulgaria could see them open up a five point lead over France in the table, but defeat would see them replaced by the hosts. After dropping points in their opening game, France know they can’t have any more slip-ups as not even a second-place finish guarantees a place in the playoffs in the World Cup qualifiers.
