France coach Raymond Domenech and captain Thierry Henry urged fans to be patient during Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier because the team have a habit of leaving it late to score against Lithuania. Their plea ahead of their home Group Seven qualifier came after defender Patrice Evra said last week that fans’ repeated boos had upset France players.
“People are usually supportive when we are playing well but they are less happy when we are not,” Henry told reporters on Tuesday. “The only trouble is that we have always had to wait until the dying minutes to score against (Lithuania). We have patience on the field and I hope the fans will also have patience in the stands.”
“Our fans can help our players a little bit more by pushing them harder,” Domenech said
