Botswana have suffered a major blow ahead of their 2014 World Cup qualifier against South Africa after Mogogi Gabonamong withdrew from the team.
Gabonamong, a long-time servant of his national team, cited family problems as the reason behind his decision to opt out of the match in Gaborone.
The SuperSport United midfielder has since written a letter to the Botswana Football Association explaining his decision.
“We have agreed that I will not be available for the game because I have to attend to family problems,” he told BBC Sport.
There have been reports in Botswana suggesting the former Santos midfielder’s decision to turn down the call-up was down to a money dispute involving the players and football association but Gabonamong would not elaborate.
“I don’t want to talk about other issues. I will be there for future games, definitely,” he said.
