David Beckham remains confident that Los Angeles Galaxy can defy the odds in the second leg of their Western Conference semi-final.

Galaxy must hand the San Jose Earthquakes their first MLS home defeat since March to have any chance of progressing to the Western Conference final.

The defending MLS Cup champions were beaten 1-0 by the Earthquakes in Sunday’s first leg in Los Angeles.

“We said after the game the other day that it wasn’t the ideal result,” Beckham said.

“But at least we know what we have to do, we know that we have to come out and attack and get the goals that we need.

“There’s no doubt that this team can go there and win this game. It’s going to be tough, but I think we’ve all recovered pretty well from the game the other night.”

Captain Landon Donovan said Los Angeles will aim to turn the tie around in 90 minutes.

“Our goal is to win the game,” he said.

“If we can win the game, great. If it goes to extra time, then that’s part of it. Penalties, that’s part of it.”

Striker Robbie Keane said Galaxy had outplayed their opponents throughout the regular season.

“I think if everybody studied the games we’ve played against them, we were the better team, but that means absolutely nothing,” he said.

“I’d prefer to play really badly against them and get a result.”
