William Gallas believes his winning mentality has helped change the culture of underachievement at Tottenham.

Gallas was a controversial arrival at White Hart Lane in the summer of 2010, having played for Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal as well as Chelsea.

But the Frenchman, who won two Premier League titles and a League Cup at Stamford Bridge, believes his uncompromising hunger for success has rubbed off on his team-mates.

“Maybe I have tried (to change the mentality). I played for Chelsea from 2001 until 2006 and I won some trophies there, so I know what you have to do,” he told the London Evening Standard.

“The players here have the right mentality now because they want to win every game.

“If we draw a match, some of my team-mates can be very upset but that is a good thing. Two years ago, those same players were not thinking like that.

“Even if we don’t play well, we have to take the three points and maybe some people didn’t understand my reaction (to poor results). Now, though, the attitude of some players has changed and that is a positive thing.”

Tottenham sit in fourth place in the Premier League, just one point behind Chelsea, with six wins and four draws in their last 10 league games.

Leaders Manchester United were the only other unbeaten side in that period, and Gallas feels Spurs need to push on and maintain that level of consistency.

“Tottenham can improve against the smaller teams,” he continued.

“When we play those sides, we have to take points and we’re starting to do it. The important thing for everyone is to chase perfection. Even if you win a game, some things are not right, so you have to correct them.

“That means that in training you have to speak with the players and say what is good and what is bad. If you do this, you will get what you want.”
