(GSM) – William Gallas is a serious doubt for Sunday’s clash with table toppers Chelsea. Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has admitted that the French defender is likely to miss the game at the Emirates due to an eye injury.
Gallas sustained his injury during the Champions League game against Standard Liege (2-0 win), when a clash of heads with Andrey Arshavin saw the defender hobble off to be replaced at half-time. “There is a big question mark about him (Gallas) at the moment,” Wenger said.
“I cannot say that William Gallas will play, unfortunately. The ankle should be alright but the eye is still very, very, very swollen.
“He wears contact lenses and at the moment he would not get them in.
“We hope on Sunday it will be better.”
The French coach said that Arshavin had overcome the effects of the collision and will be available for the game against the Blues. “Arshavin was shocked but he is OK,” he added.
Arsenal are currently eight points behind Chelsea, albeit with a game in hand.
