Defender William Gallas will miss France's World Cup qualifier in Romania on Saturday, team sources said Thursday.

Jean-Alain Boumsong of Lyon will now step up to replace Arsenal's Gallas, who has strained his right thigh.

Gallas had been rested Tuesday as the squad met up but did feature in Wednesday training.

France have three points from two matches in Group Seven having begun with a loss in Austria before beating Serbia at home to ease the pressure on coach Raymond Domenech.

Surprise package Lithuania head the group with six points.
