Scottish Premier League side Motherwell have offered Jim Gannon the vacant manager’s job, the club have confirmed.
The former Stockport County boss has verbally agreed to take over from Mark McGhee, who left the club for Aberdeen.
Gannon, 40, will be formally announced next week, once contract details have been finalised.
Lawrie Sanchez, Steve Staunton and Aidy Boothroyd were also in the frame but Gannon is the choice of chairman John Boyle.
But striker David Clarkson is unlikely to be part of Gannon’s plans after the club accepted an undisclosed bid from Bristol City for the player.
