Lyon coach Remi Garde believes that Monaco will compete for the Ligue 1 title next season.
The Stade Louis II outfit have splashed the cash on a number of new signings during the close-season, including Radamel Falcao, James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho.
As a result, Garde believes Monaco will rival current champions Paris Saint-Germain for the championship in 2013-14 on their return to the top flight.
“We saw last year, we were part of the group of teams that attempted to compete with Paris Saint-Germain as long as possible,” he said.
“PSG certainly ran into a few speed bumps, most notably in the French Cup, but also in the league.
“Will Monaco start well next season? Of course they will, they have some great players, an experienced manager, they’re a club that have spent plenty of time in Ligue 1. I’m sure they have the correct structure within the club to re-adapt rapidly.”
Garde’s Lyon finished 16 points behind PSG in the league last year, with Marseille four points above them in second.
