Lyon head coach Remi Garde has admitted his team were fortunate to beat Montpellier 2-1 in Ligue 1 on Friday.
The visitors needed a 93rd-minute goal from Clement Grenier to take all three points away from the reigning champions at the Stade de la Mosson.
Garde acknowledged there was an element of good fortune in his team’s victory, which moves them second on the table at the expense of Marseille, who play Brest on Saturday.
“It is a lucky victory but still, a very important one for the team,” Garde said.
“Every win, no matter how we get, it is very important in this period.
“We were trying to defend too much and we are playing too deep.
“We were not aggressive enough at some points. We let them play at the end of the first half and they took advantage of it in order to level the scores.
“During the second half we played against a very good team and we have to recognise that. We struggled a lot against them in the second half.
“The draw would perhaps have been a fair result, Lyon’s victory was perhaps lucky. However, sometimes we have drawn games when we should have won.
“Tonight the luck went our way and we got the result.
“All the players involved have shown a very good spirit tonight.
“The togetherness of the team allows us to go through some difficult times and we have had some bad moments in the second half here.
“But the solidarity between the players was important today. I spoke about it before the game because I knew that Montpellier would play at 100 percent.
“First of all, they still had a chance to play in Europe and also because Montpellier against Lyon has always been a tough game.
“I think we saw quite a beautiful game today. But I knew that the solidarity of my squad was decisive for us to get something here.”
