Gekas leaves Levante

Greek striker Theofanis Gekas has had his contract with Levante terminated by mutual consent, the La Liga club announced on their website.

The experienced forward asked the club chiefs earlier this week to be allowed to leave due to personal reasons.

Following the board meeting held yesterday evening, the two parties have signed all the documents needed to have the player’s contract rescinded.

The club released an official statement thanking the player for his contribution and wishing him success in the remainder of his career.

The 32-year-old joined Levante on a free transfer from Samsunspor last August and was mostly used during club’s Europa League campaign given that first choice forward Obafemi Martins was ineligible.

Gekas netted once in 5 Europa League appearances, while he failed to get on the scoresheet in 4 La Liga matches.
