Genoa adamant Borriello not for sale

Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi has poured cold water on rumours linking star striker Marco Borrello with a January exit from the club.

The experienced striker was left out of the squad to face Inter, which sparked speculations that he may be on the way out of Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Borriello, 30, was believed to be on Inter radar, but Genoa patron Enrico Preziosi has moved to deny the transfer talk.

“Marco Borriello stays here. That is as long as he doesn’t put in a transfer request himself,” Preziosi told Sky Sport Italia.

“Inter? I met the Inter board but we didn’t talk about him. I have received no enquiries about the player.”

Marco Borriello joined Genoa on a loan deal from Roma in the summer, and went on to score 3 goals in 11 Serie A games for the club.

That, however, did not stop the Rossoblu from slipping into the relegation zone after the first part of the season.

During his previous spell at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Borriello had scored 19 goals in 35 Serie A fixtures.
