Morocco coach Eric Gerets has blamed his team’s lack of physical strength for their group-stage exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Gerets’ side finished third in Group C, behind Tunisia and tournament co-hosts Gabon.
They recorded one win from three matches, beating last-placed Niger 1-0 in their final match.
“We have to take into consideration that our game is purely technical,” Gerets told Le Matin.
“We have to try to introduce some more physicality by finding players who can go to work on this.”
“We need a better mix of the technical and physical aspects.”
Former Marseille coach Gerets said he thought his players also suffered from a lack of confidence, particularly during a 3-2 defeat in a must-win game against Gabon.
“We lacked confidence, notably in the second half against Gabon,” he said.
“We played with fear in our stomachs. Some players hid and wouldn’t dare ask for the ball. All of this played a role in the final result. These are things we have to work on.”
