Steve Gerrard has told Zoo magazine that he believes that England have the strongest choice of central midfield players in Europe. His excitement followed England’s win in Croatia last month.

“We just showed what the players can really do when we come together. We still have a new manager, so it was always going to take a while for him to get us playing his way. It shows the quality of the central midfield players available to England. I was the only one injured, but we showed huge strength in depth. For me, England has the best choice of central midfield players in Europe.”

Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry occupied the central midfield against Croatia and England can also look to Owen Hargreaves, Michael Carrick and Gerrard.

There is no doubt that England have several players capable of playing international football in the central midfield area, but I can’t help but feel that Gerrard has forgotten about Spain!

Iniesta, Senna, Xavi and Fabregas might just have a claim to the title of best in Europe.

You’re leaving out Xabi Alonso, who, given the people you mentioned for England, certainly deserves to be mentioned amongst the other talented names of sunny Spain.

Ilesa, Osun State, Nigeria. Midfielder will not be a problem for the Three Lion, Lampard, Gerrard, Carrick, Hargreves, Barry even the young Reo Coker.

how about xabi alonso, santi cazorla and ruben de la red as well? used to think that england had the best midfield but now Spain without a doubt have the best…also, spanish midfielders do communicate unlike england’s

I think both teams should partake in an international friendly so that we will all see for ourselves who has the best midfleld.

I personally believe ENGLAND have more options in the midfield than SPAIN.

Got something to say?
