Gervinho admits he is joining Arsenal; La Liga star prefers Roma over Barcelona

Gervinho admits he is joining Arsenal

Lille forward Gervinho has revealed he is set to join Arsenal this summer.

The Ivorian striker was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates during the past few weeks and he has revealed why he opted for Arsenal.

“I chose Arsenal because it’s a young group within which I will be able to integrate easily,” Gervinho told France Football.

“I could develop more over there. There’s only a few details left to sort out.

The 24-year-old is confident that he will manage to earn a starting place in Arsene Wenger’s side.

“A risk? Not at all. I’m going to Arsenal to play. The best risk to take is to look to score goals and to play a lot.

“In football you have to take risks if you want to win. I’m going to Arsenal to win.”

The Gunners had had a £7.2 million bid rejected by Lille, but the second offer of around £11 million was enough to close the deal.

The Ivorian has agreed a four-year deal with Arsenal worth £60,000 per week and he admits that the Gunners’ style of play is one of the reasons behind his decision.

“I’m going there to play, not to be on the bench. Arsenal love the game. And I love teams that love the game.

“The Premier League is a notch above. It’s maybe the best league in the world. I want to live that sensation.”

La Liga star prefers Roma over Barcelona

Sporting Gijon full-back Jose Angel has revealed that he prefers to join Roma despite interest from Barcelona.

The 21-year-old was very close to joining Barcelona just few weeks ago, but has now admitted that he would rather join Roma.

The young player believes that only regular playing time will properly aid his development.

“For me it was very important to choose the team that can offer me a chance to play,” Jose Angel told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“Barcelona wanted me, that’s true, but Roma are the club that are the most interested in me, and is the one that is closer.”

The youngster says that Roma are just as big as Real or Barcelona and he would be delighted to seal the switch to Olimpico.

“I do not know if I will be joining Roma for pre-season training in mid July, but I hope that the negotiations are closed as soon as possible, so that I will be there.”

The player is positive that Luis Enrique will do a good job at Roma.

“I think Luis Enrique has all the qualities to become a great coach and I have no doubt that he will do well in Roma.”

Malaga not giving up on Lucho

Malaga are still keen on Marseille playmaker Lucho Gonzalez, according to L’Equipe.

The La Liga side had a €6 million offer rejected last month, but they are reportedly ready to make an improved bid for the Argentine.

After failing in their efforts to bring Villarreal duo Borja Valero and Santi Cazorla, los Boquerones have reignited their interest in Lucho Gonzalez.

The Argentine is looking to leave Marseille this summer and he is reportedly tempted by the prospect of joining free-spending Malaga.

The Ligue 1 side are ready to lower their valuation of the player from €13m to €10m as they are eager to cash in on their prized asset.

With Villarreal and Roma also showing interest in the Argentine playmaker, Malaga are expected to table a new bid in the coming days.

Lucho Gonzalez is expected to join Marseille squad for pre-season training on Monday, but it looks as though he is going to leave Velodrome before the season starts.
