Manchester United great Ryan Giggs claims Swansea City could not match his ambitions when he discussed the managerial role at the club.

Bob Bradley was this week appointed to the Swans helm following Francesco Guidolin’s departure, but Giggs was widely thought to have been keen on the job.

However, he has now suggested that he was unimpressed by the Premier League club after holding preliminary talks.

“There I was enjoying my year out, having done a bit of travelling and a bit of broadcasting, and I got the call from Swansea,” he told ITV Sport. “So I met with them a couple of times.

“But in the end, there were just mixed messages, really, from the football side and the ownership side of the club, and I just felt that their ambitions didn’t really match mine. So it didn’t quite work out.”

Giggs served as Louis van Gaal’s assistant at United for two years, having taken charge of four games for the 20-time English champions in a caretaker role when David Moyes left.
