Gokhan Inler’s move to Schalke falls through

Bundesliga side Schalke have confirmed that they will not be signing Swiss midfielder Gokhan Inler from Leicester City.

The Miners have been quite busy in the early days of the winter transfer window, having recruited Younes Belhanda on loan from Dynamo Kiev and purchased Alessandro Schopf from Nurnberg.

And they were believed to be close to agreeing a deal with Gokhan Inler, but ultimately had to pull the plug on the transfer as they were unable to agree personal terms with the Leicester City footballer.

Schalke boss Horst Heldt confirmed to Bild that the Miners would not be adding the 32-year-old to their ranks.

That now makes it two failed transfers for the Veltins Arena outfit in the January transfer window, as the club also ended their interest in Renato Augusto due to high wage demands.

As far as Gokhan Inler is concerned, he could very well regret the decision to reject Schalke as his hopes of playing at the Euro 2016 could be damaged if he continues to sit on the fringes at King Power Stadium.
