(GSM) – Normally, goalkeepers win matches for their clubs with important saves, but the day after Hans Jorg Butt’s penalty goal for Bayern Munich Sinan Bolat hit the spotlights in a similar way.
The Standard Liege stopper decided to go up front in the extra time of the game against AZ Alkmaar and instantly headed the equalizer in the nets to catapult the Belgium side into the Europa League at the expense of their opponents.
The Golden Boy told Dutch TV station NOS that he doesn’t train on headers. “It was a perfect assist and I just had to put my head against it,” was Bolat’s explanation. “It’s nice it worked out because everyone at Standard is very happy with the qualification.
“It were the dying seconds of the match,” the Turkish international looked back at the moment. “We had nothing to lose so I thought ‘I’ll go up front’. Then, the ball was launched in the box brilliantly so that I was able to head it in a good way. Considering the matches against Olympiakos and Arsenal, we deserve the third spot in the group.”
Bolat’s decisive goal came the day after Bayern Munich keeper Hans Jorg Butt scored a penalty to sent Bayern on their way to a memorable victory over Juventus.
