Mario Gotze and Ilkay Gundogan are back in the Germany squad, with Marcel Halstenberg earning a call-up for the first time.

Borussia Dortmund forward Gotze and Manchester City midfielder Gundogan have not played for their country this year due to respective metabolic and knee problems but are in Joachim Low’s plans for the friendly matches against England and France.

The more surprising addition to the squad is uncapped RB Leipzig full-back Halstenberg, who has impressed in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season.

There is no place for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller, who is recovering from a hamstring strain.

Germany face England at Wembley next Friday before taking on France four days later.

Squad in full:

Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona), Kevin Trapp (Paris Saint-Germain); Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich), Matthias Ginter (Borussia Monchengladbach), Marcel Halstenberg (RB Leipzig), Mats Hummels (Bayern Munich), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich), Marvin Plattenhardt (Hertha Berlin), Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea), Niklas Sule (Bayern Munich); Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen), Emre Can (Liverpool), Julian Draxler (Paris Saint-Germain), Mario Gotze (Borussia Dortmund), Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City), Sami Khedira (Juventus), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal), Sebastian Rudy (Bayern Munich), Leroy Sane (Manchester City), Lars Stindl (Borussia Monchengladbach), Sandro Wagner (Hoffenheim), Timo Werner (RB Leipzig), Amin Younes (Ajax).
