Gourcuff nears Lyon exit

French newspaper Le 10 Sport understands that Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff could leave the club after his contract talks broke down.

The highly rated footballer has two years left on his deal at Stade Gerland, and he is currently in talks over a contract extension.

However, with club chiefs looking to trim down the wage budget, Gourcuff will have to accept a pay cut if he is to remain with les Gones.

According to Le 10 Sport, the player has been very disappointed with club’s latest offer and that could see him leave Stade Gerland in January.

Having largely struggled to prove his worth since arriving from Bordeaux, the 27-year-old has finally managed to kick-start his career.

Gourcuff has been in fine form this season, managing 2 goals and as many assist in 4 league fixtures.

He is, however, expected to quit les Gones in January, with Arsenal reportedly leading the chase for his signature.
