Granero: Win just around the corner

QPR playmaker Esteban Granero feels the club’s fortunes will soon improve, and is happy with the way they played in their 1-1 draw with Everton.

The 23-year-old, who joined the west London club from Spanish giants Real Madrid, was one of 12 arrivals during the off-season transfer window but Mark Hughes’ squad are yet to hit full stride this term.

Although they have collected just three points from their first eight league games of the season, Granero believes the club will turn the corner soon.

“We are improving a lot,” he told his club’s official website. “We trained very hard during the international break, working on a lot of things.

“We have to keep positive and the results will come, I am confident of that.

“Everyone was speaking very highly of Everton before Sunday’s game and rightly so, but I felt we dominated the match.

“We played very well 11 versus 11, but when they went down to 10 they made it very difficult for us.

“We created some good chances and I think we were unlucky, but if we play like this the results will definitely come.”

Hughes’ men face Arsenal in their next league fixture, and Granero has warned his team-mates to be wary of a backlash from the Gunners following their unexpected loss against Norwich.

“Arsenal are a great team with very high class, quality players. They are one of the best teams in the Premier League,” he said.

“They wouldn’t have expected to lose to Norwich last weekend, so they will want to respond. Arsenal won’t want to lose two league games in a row.”

Granero has been one of his side’s better performers so far this term, but the Spaniard claimed his satisfaction with his own performances is unimportant when the team is struggling.

“I am happy with my form, but it is secondary,” he said.

“The most important thing is the team and getting points on the board. When we win that first game everything will fall into place for us.

“Saturday represents us with another opportunity. We don’t feel as though we are too far away.

“We know we can play against the top sides as we have proved.”
