Gregory van der Wiel becomes free agent

Dutch defender Gregory van der Wiel is set to become a free agent as he has failed to agree a new deal at Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain have announced.

The 28-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the current season and even though he was offered a new deal, the right-back did not want to extend his stay at the club.

Namely, van der Wiel expressed his disappointment at not being a first team regular on numerous occasions and he has now decided to leave in search of regular playing time.

With Inter Milan, Juventus and Monaco all reportedly keen on his services, the experienced defender should have no problems finding a new club, although he will obviously be looking to secure first team football first and foremost.

Van der Wiel has spent last four seasons with the Saints, making 89 league appearances and scoring 4 goals.
