Guardiola not complacent ahead of Huddersfield clash

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has warned against complacency ahead of his high-flying side’s visit to Huddersfield Town on Sunday.
 
City go into the clash on a 10-game winning streak in the Premier League – a run which has seen them open up an eight-point lead over Manchester United at the top of the table. 

Guardiola’s side have scored 40 goals in their 12 league games so far this season and go into the match as overwhelming favourites. 

The coach, though, is refusing to take an 11th consecutive league win for granted and believes his side could be in for a tough test against David Wagner’s promoted team, who have already beaten Manchester United at home this season. 

“We played last season against them [a 0-0 draw in the FA Cup],” Guardiola told a news conference.
 
“We were not able to win there, we realised how complicated it is to play there.

“What Wagner has done speaks for itself – promotion from the Championship and the result against United, but not just that.

“At home, they have had good results. When they decide to make high pressing, they are so well-organised. 

“Like every game away in the Premier League, we will try.” 

Guardiola confirmed he has no new injury concerns, with only long-term absentees John Stones and Benjamin Mendy unavailable for selection. 

That means Vincent Kompany, who returned from his latest injury setback against Leicester City last weekend, is likely to line up alongside Nicolas Otamendi at the heart of City’s defence. 

“Everybody is okay,” he added. 

“Yesterday was a day off. Today, I want to see how everyone is.

“Vincent is ready to play.”
