Gudjohnsen unhappy at Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Eidur Gudjohnsen is likely to quit the club this summer after telling Iceland’s Morgunbladid newspaper Friday that he was unhappy at being dropped from the first team.

Gudjohnsen said he was pleased with the club’s success this year, but would still look to play his football elsewhere next season.

“Of course I am happy about us being in the finals of the Champions League, but I don?t deny that I am rather unhappy about my status and I can very well imagine that this will be my last season with Barcelona,” Gudjohnsen said.

“I don?t understand why my status [within the team] changes this suddenly because I thought I was doing well. This is difficult to swallow,” he added.

“I will look into my affairs when the season is over…It is very enjoyable to be with a large club, but it is not very enjoyable to just watch and sit on the bench.”

The 30-year-old Icelandic international signed a four-year deal with Barcelona in June 2006 after six seasons with Chelsea where he mainly played as a striker.

Gudjohnsen has started just 14 games this season and made 15 substitute appearances, scoring 4 goals in all competitions.
