Hazard staying at Chelsea; Sunderland bitter over Colback’s move to Newcastle United

Chelsea star Eden Hazard has rubbished reports linking him with a summer move to French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, insisting he will stay at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea star Eden Hazard has rubbished reports linking him with a summer move to French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, insisting he will stay at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Belgium international, whose current deal at the club expires in the summer of 2017, has also confirmed he is in contract talks with the Blues.

With the start of the World Cup finals just two days away, Hazard has moved to play down speculation suggesting he could leave West London for Paris when the transfer window re-opens in July.

“I won’t go to PSG, I am staying at Chelsea 100 per cent,” Hazard told La Derniere Heure.

“We are talking with Chelsea about a contract extension, but there’s no hurry on that.

“Of course in football you never know but I am under contract with Chelsea and I want to stay there.

“It is only the beginning of the talks right now so we have time, but the fact that Chelsea have offered me a new deal means they have a lot of confidence in me that I can do a good job and that they can count on me.

“PSG never made any suggestions to me personally.”

The 2013/14 English Premier League Young Player of the Year tallied 14 goals and seven assists in 35 league appearances for Chelsea last term.

Sunderland bitter over Colback’s move to Newcastle United

Sunderland A.F.C. have released an official statement criticising Jack Colback in the wake of the player joining the Black Cats’ bitter North East rivals Newcastle United.

Colback, 24, joined Sunderland’s youth academy at the age of 10 and went on to make over 130 first-team appearances for the club between 2008 and 2014.

The versatile 24-year-old also spent time on loan at Ipswich Town, from 2009 to 2011, before returning to the Stadium of Light prior to the start of the 2010/2011 campaign.

Earlier this week, Colback revealed his delight at securing a move from Wearside to Tyneside, much to the chagrin of Sunderland, and understandably so.

“Jack is a player we have nurtured and developed through our academy system since he was eight years old,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

“We gave him the opportunity to become a professional footballer and are therefore extremely disappointed in the events that have led to his departure from the club.

“This wasn’t about money – the club agreed to all of the terms demanded of us during discussions and we were always led to believe that Jack wanted to stay with us.

“At his and his representatives’ request, final talks were put on hold until the club secured its top flight status. To our dismay however, we were subsequently never given the chance to negotiate with him to stay.

“For him to then leave the club that has supported him throughout his formative years in such a manner, with no chance for Sunderland to recover any of the significant investment that it has made in him as a player, has left a bitter taste.”

Colback bagged three goals and two assists in 45 appearances in all competitions, including 36 starts, for the Black Cats last term.
