Wayne Rooney’s potential arrival at Chelsea would be “brilliant” for the club, according to attacker Eden Hazard.
Chelsea have been active in their pursuit of a striker during the close-season, with manager Jose Mourinho keen to bolster his attacking options.
A move for Colombian Radamel Falcao fell apart, as he signed for big-spending Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, while Mourinho’s attempts at signing Napoli striker Edinson Cavani have reportedly lost momentum.
With Chelsea reportedly turning their attention to Manchester United’s Rooney – who has handed in two transfer requests in three years at Old Trafford – Hazard has thrown his support behind the proposed move.
And the Belgian, who scored 13 goals and laid on 26 assists for Chelsea last term, would love to play alongside the striker.
“We’ve heard all the names – it’s not up to us who comes in but it’s exciting,” Hazard said in Thailand on Monday.
“Rooney would be a brilliant signing. He’s a really great player who has the experience, and he’s still only young, at 27. He’s got a few years left to play.
“It’s always a pleasure to play with great players, and Chelsea sign great players.”
Hazard’s comments come less than a week after Mourinho expressed his public admiration for the want-away forward.
Rooney scored 16 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions last season.
