Hull City striker Abel Hernandez has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for an alleged act of violent conduct during Sunday’s 0-0 Premier League draw against Manchester United.

Hernandez appeared to punch United defender Phil Jones in the stomach in the 70th minute of the contest at the KC Stadium, in a game that saw Hull relegated to the Championship.

Referee Lee Probert and his assistants did not spot the altercation during the game.

However, the FA has taken a dim view of the incident and confirmed the charge via a statement on their official website.

The matter will now be passed on to a panel of three former referees who will judge whether they deem the offence to be a sending off.

Hernandez has until Wednesday to respond to the charge.
