Jupp Heynckes has confirmed his retirement after insisting he will not coach another club following his departure from Bayern Munich.

The 68-year-old finishes his career on a high after a historic season with Bayern, in which they won a treble of the Bundesliga title, the UEFA Champions League and the DFB-Pokal.

“I’m somewhat against finality – but I can say it for sure, I will not a coach a team again. I’ve had a dignified exit from football,” he told Der Spiegal.

Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola will now take the reins at the Allianz Arena, and Heynckes believes the Spaniard is the right man for the job.

“It’s the right decision,” the ex-Real Madrid boss added.

“You have to take the opportunity. If they had not found a replacement for me, we might have talked again but the situation now is the best for me. Guardiola will get a perfect working team.”
