Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes says he may play Luiz Gustavo alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger in Saturday’s clash with Hamburg.

With Javi Martinez suspended for Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg with Juventus, Heynckes is looking to test Gustavo’s effectiveness at the heart of midfield.

“I think I will play Luiz Gustavo alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger, although I’m yet to discuss this decision with Luiz and Javi,” Heynckes told reporters.

Heynckes also revealed he is wary of featuring Franck Ribery, after the France star suffered a toe injury in training on Thursday.

“If he doesn’t feel any pain, then he plays. Yesterday, he did not take part in training, but did use the ergometer bicycle,” he said.

Victory over Hamburg and a defeat for Borussia Dortmund against Stuttgart would secure Bayern’s 23rd Bundesliga time.

The Bavarians face Juventus at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
