Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has admitted that his job with the Russian national team may come to an end if the team fails to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

“We put a clause in there saying that, if Russia do not qualify, we can talk about leaving,” the Dutchman said.

“My contract expires at the period of 2010 World Cup. But we also said that if we don’t qualify and the Russian Federation likes to go in a different direction, then we have to talk about how to end the contract.”

These words are expected to fuel speculations of Hiddink staying at Chelsea, although the manager himself has always said to leave London at the end of the season. Moreover, Russia are currently in second place in their qualifying group and on course for next year’s finals.
