Hierro: Raul will make a great coach

SoccerNews in General Soccer News 3 Jun 2012

Former Spain defender Fernando Hierro claims Raul would make an excellent coach once he retires from playing football.

Hierro knows the attacker well, having played nine seasons alongside him at Real Madrid and also with Spain at three major tournaments between 1998 and 2002.

Now seemingly in the twilight of his career after announcing his next move will be to Qatari club Al Sadd, Hierro feels the evergreen striker already possesses all the necessary qualities to succeed as a manager.

“Raul is going to be a great coach,” Hierro told Marca. “It (coaching) has been in his skin since he was 20 years old. He likes to talk, direct, plan.

“Give him some time, take a few years holiday, earn the qualifications, but then he will be ready.”

Speaking in regards to Raul’s longevity and ability to keep scoring goals, Hierro said: “He has fired in Germany as if he had 15 years playing there.

“He is an example to all, what it means to be a professional and he will always be admired.

“I had no doubt that when he went to Germany he was going to win because this sport is his hobby and he has human character like few others.

“He’s earned respect by example, suffering day to day. He has adapted to a country, a culture and no one has given anything.

“And it seems logical and reasonable that he’s gone to Qatar to enjoy football and is still fit.”

Hierro also played in the Qatari league after playing one season for Al Rayyan before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 2004.
