Gonzalo Higuain has hinted that his future with Real Madrid remains uncertain after helping his side to a 5-1 win over Levante on Saturday.
The Argentine forward scored a 36th-minute equaliser – his 12th La Liga goal this campaign – in the comprehensive victory.
Afterwards, Higuain was not willing to discuss the prospect of signing a new contract, fuelling speculation that his time at the Santiago Bernabeu may be coming to an end.
“This is not the time to talk about my contract renewal,” the 25-year-old told reporters.
“I am available to the club, but I will not say any more. This is not the time.”
Real fell behind to Michel’s first-half strike before Higuain’s acrobatic volley restored parity just five minutes later.
“The truth is that it was a nice goal,” the former River Plate forward added. “I dropped into the centre and decided to hit him first time.
“I had to play well and tried to use the ball today. I scored a goal, gave an assist to Cristiano (Ronaldo) and finished the 90 minutes no problem.
“However, we must try not to start with going 1-0 down at home. That must be corrected.”
Real are 13 points behind leaders Barcelona with 65 points from 30 games.
