Gonzalo Higuain was delighted with Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Galatasaray in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and the Argentine helped the Liga champions to a comfortable win at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

And the 25-year-old says his side are brimming with confidence ahead of next week’s return.

“It was an important match. It was the first leg and we knew we had to play well to get a result at home to take with us to a difficult ground to play at,” Higuain said.

“It is a good result that allows us to go there with a little bit of calm but knowing that the second leg will be difficult.

“Galatasaray are a great team, but we went out there on top from the first minute and got a 3-0 win which gives us confidence.

“I have never played there, but they say that it is a stadium where they put a lot of pressure on you but we have a lot of quality players that have played in many stadiums and I do not think it will affect us.”

The second leg in Istanbul takes place on Tuesday.
