(GSM) – New Aston Villa manager Gérard Houllier could be set to make Manchester United striker Michael Owen his first signing at Villa Park.

News of the World reckons Houllier is interested in his former player, who has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Owen’s United career has stalled and the 30-year-old is reportedly eager to play under Houllier again, having enjoyed his best years while playing under the Frenchman.

Owen could be available for a nominal fee or on loan in January or he may wait until the end of the season.to move on a free transfer if United reject to let go of the former England striker in the winter.
