Hughes impressed by Asian opposition

Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes has praised the quality of opposition during the team’s tour of Asia.

QPR recorded 5-0 wins over Sabah Select XI and Kelantan in Malaysia, before finishing their tour with a 2-1 triumph over Indonesian side Persebaya, who Hughes labelled ‘excellent’.

“I thought the standard of the opposition was excellent. Technically they were very good,” Hughes told the QPR website.

“They were able to deal with the football and were comfortable in possession. There’s no doubt some of the players have the ability to play at a higher level.”

“The opposition were good and we’re very pleased that we won, because that is a good habit to be in.”

Hughes said the tour had been ‘absolutely perfect’ for his side as they ramp up their preparations for the new English Premier League season.

“It’s been absolutely perfect. We’ve been really pleased with the quality of games we’ve had, the preparation, and we’ve been dumbstruck by the whole welcome we’ve had here,” he said.

“I would like to thank everyone on behalf of QPR for the welcome we have received both here in Indonesia and Malaysia. This is something that we’ll take away with us.”
