Chris Hughton said his Norwich side may have to sacrifice style in order to record enough points to stay in the Premier League next season.

The Canaries are in 14th position in the table and are six points away from the drop zone, however a run of nine matches without victory has raised the alarm bells after an impressive start.

Hughton’s men have drawn four out of the last five league games and in 11 matches overall – a record only surpassed by Everton and Stoke – and Hughton indicated that his players may have to play ugly in order to bring in some points.

“We have got 12 games left and, whichever way we get the points, we have to get them,” the 54-year-old told reporters.

“There is only one priority and target – to make sure we are in this league next season.

“We went through a difficult period at the beginning of the season, then a very good period where we didn’t lose for 10 games, and now we are finding wins that little bit harder.

“All you hope is to rectify that by doing the work on the training pitch. We are working on all aspects.”

The Canaries are out of the FA Cup after being knocked out by lower league side Luton Town, and therefore have a break from football this weekend.

They are back in action in the Premier League on February 23 when they host Champions League-chasing Everton at Carrow Road.
