After the glory of reaching last season’s Uefa Cup final, Rangers have started this season witha humiliating exit from the Champions League.
A 2-1 defeat at Lithuanian part-timers FBK Kaunas means that they will have a season without European competition.
Last season Rangers felt that fixture congestion led to them failing to win the SPL and the Uefa Cup. Unfortunately, they will have no such excuses this time around.
Many people thought that Rangers’ tactics in Europe last season were too negative and were described at one point as ‘anti-football’.
It is a shame that against such limited opposition Rangers still played with only one striker and seemed to settle for an away goals win with the score at 1-1. Maybe, in the end, they got what they deserved.
European nights at Ibrox are special and it is a shame that we will have to wait a year before experiencing them again.
