Huntelaar set for Ajax return

German media outlet Bild has suggested that Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar is close to returning to former club Ajax.

The highly rated footballer has another year left on his contract at Veltins Arena, but he is no longer considered an indispensable member of the squad.

And taking into account that Huntelaar is Schalke’s highest earner at the moment, it is believed that the Miners are ready to let the striker leave on a free transfer this summer.

The 32-year-old wouldn’t mind leaving his current employers in the summer transfer window and the latest reports claim he has set his sights on returning to Ajax.

The Amsterdammers will need a new striker when they cash in on Arkadiusz Milik and this seems like a perfect time for a reunion with the fans’ favourite.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar had spent three and a half years at Amsterdam Arena, scoring 79 goals in just 92 Eredivisie appearances.
