Hutton keen to make Mallorca stay permanent

SoccerNews in La Liga 10 May 2013

Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has confirmed his desire to remain at loan club Real Mallorca rather than return to Villa Park.

The Scotland international has been with the Spanish side, who are currently bottom of La Liga, since January and says he is keen to stay at the Iberostar Estadi.

Hutton has two years remaining on his Villa contract and with Mallorca officials yet to open talks about a permanent deal, as things stand he will be heading back to the Midlands in the close-season.

However, despite the troubles his side have gone through on the pitch, Hutton remains convinced about the benefits of playing abroad and says he made the right decision in January.

He told the Birmingham Mail: “I have not as such had any talks about staying as obviously it is hard at the moment as we are fighting with everything we have got to try and stay up.

“It is probably the wrong time to discuss things as we have four games left and we will see how things go and take it from when the season finishes.

“Who wouldn’t want to come and play in the Spanish league? It is a brilliant thing to do and I would love to stay in Mallorca and if not, hopefully Spain in general.

“It’s been a brilliant new experience for myself and I am really enjoying every minute of it.”

Prior to his move to Spain, Hutton was not playing as much regular football as he would have liked and this was one of the main factors in his decision to leave Villa Park.

“Things were not good for me at Aston Villa and I had to look to the future and this was the main thing for me, to go out and play football and get back to doing what I love to do,” he said.

“I am just glad to be playing football and some of the experiences I have had out here – playing Barcelona at the Camp Nou, playing Madrid at the Bernabeu and some massive games at home – it has really been unbelievable.

“The season has kind of totally turned around for me from basically not doing a lot to coming out here and doing some stuff players probably dream of so it has been a great experience for me.”

With four games to go, Mallorca sit bottom of La Liga but only four points behind Real Zaragoza in 17th place.
They travel to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.
