After escaping at FC Twente in order to advance in the UEFA Cup, Marseille manager Eric Gerets has openly criticized his side’s next opponent, Ajax.

The Belgian manager spent many years at PSV Eindhoven, both as player and as a coach. His trips to Ajax were never something to look forward to, he said.

“This club I really don’t hold dearly. When I was still at PSV, Ajax really was the enemy. I never appreciated them, and they never liked me much either. I suspect that I’ll be their guest of honor,” he stated cynically.

Marseille visit Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena on March 18th, six days after the opening leg in France.
