Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic does not believe that Barcelona star Lionel Messi deserves to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or this year.
The Sweden international – a former team-mate of Messi’s in Spain – feels the Argentine has enjoyed a good season on a personal level, but added that he has not won enough silverware to be crowned the world’s best this year.
“He had a great season personally but he didn’t win much with his team,” the flamboyant Ibrahimovic told Eurosport.
“He’s already won the trophy three times and, if it goes on like that, it’ll be difficult for anyone else to get it. It’s time someone else won it.”
Messi revealed earlier this week that he is not too concerned with winning individual trophies as he is focussed on winning titles with Barcelona.
Ibrahimovic also ruled out Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo for the top award, which will be handed out on January 7.
