Palermo midfielder Josip Ilicic will be staying in Italy despite interest from abroad, according to his agent.
The 25-year-old Slovenian enjoyed a terrific season for Palermo last term, scoring 12 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions.
But his efforts were not enough to keep Palermo in Serie A and as a result, Ilicic is keen on a move.
Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have been keeping tabs on Ilicic, while Arsenal were linked with a move for the Slovenia international.
However, it appears as though Ilicic will stay in Italy, with Fiorentina, Milan and Roma said to be leading the chase for the player.
Ilicic’s agent Amir Ruznic told TMW: “The offer from Bayer Leverkusen has been there for some time, but the player has clearly said he wants to stay in Italy.
“His desire is to remain in this country, hopefully even after he retires, as he is so happy here.”
Ruznic also confirmed that several clubs were interested in signing Ilicic but refused to go into too much detail.
“I cannot say one way or the other. It’s a difficult moment and there is too much clamour around the player right now,” he said.
“I can only say there are several different clubs looking at Ilicic, which is to be expected considering his quality.”
