Barcelona went top of the table following an emphatic win over Rayo Vallecano this weekend, capitalising on Real Madrid’ shock defeat by Real Madrid against Athletic Bilbao. It’s the first time Luis Enrique’s men have reached the summit of the table since October, but it could prove to be a defining moment to the season.

The Catalan giants have been in fine form of late, winning 12 of their last 15 league games, while Real Madrid have dropped points in three of their previous five outings to relinquish their position in the table. There are 12 games left to play in the league, so the title race is far from sewn up, but Real manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted his side are having problems in the attack as they endure a slump in form.

Barcelona, on the other hand, are full of goals, recently putting six past Rayo – with Lionel Messi bagging a hat-trick. They’re now the team to beat, and could well be enjoying a period at the summit in the coming weeks. Betfair are giving odds of 4/6 for Barcelona to win the La Liga title this season as a result of the recent switch at the top.
