Andres Iniesta has revealed his bewilderment at Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho’s treatment of Iker Casillas this season.
Casillas, an international team-mate of Barcelona’s Iniesta, has been the first-choice goalkeeper for much of his time at the Bernabeu, but has played second fiddle to Diego Lopez since injuring his hand in January.
Mourinho is reported to have had a number of personal disputes with the 31-year-old – and Iniesta admitted Casillas’ situation is a bewildering one from his perspective.
“From this distance you do not understand the situation, given what Iker has always represented and what he still represents now,” he said.
“Not just that he is not playing, but the things that you hear. It is a difficult situation.
“Diego Lopez is playing very well, and is a great player. But I am not talking about the sporting situation, but the things that you hear.”
Casillas has made just 29 club appearances so far this season. Mourinho’s men sit 11 points behind Barcelona with four games left to play, meaning they have almost certainly ceded the title to their arch rivals.
