Insua set for Atletico Madrid switch

Atletico Madrid have secured the signing of Sporting Lisbon full-back Emiliano Insua, according to Marca.

Insua, 24, was believed to be on the verge of joining Brazilian giants Gremio, but the transfer eventually fell through.

Marca now reports that Atletico Madrid took advantage of the situation and agreed a €3.5 million deal for the Argentine defender.

The transfer will be made official later today, with the player arriving at Vicente Calderon as a back-up to starting left-back Filipe Luis.

With no decent cover for the left-back position, the Brazilian was forced to play most of the games this season, which resulted in three muscle injuries.

The arrival of Insua will make life easier for the highly rated full-back as well as increase competition for places in Diego Simeone’s squad.

Emiliano Insua has been in fine form ever since he joined the Lions from Liverpool, making 37 Primeira Liga appearances and featuring in 17 Europa League matches.
