Inter set to sign Silvestre

ESPN are today reporting that Inter Milan are set to sign central defender Matias Silvestre from Palermo.

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini seems to be resigned to the face they will lose one of their star men for a fee believed to be around €8 million.

He said: “With regards to Silvestre, we are on the same wavelength to reach an agreement. The chances that the deal will be completed are 99%.”

Inter are looking to strengthen their side that under achieved last season. They ended up finishing in sixth place in Serie A, meaning that there will be no Champions League or even Europa League football at the San Siro next campaign.

The Italian giants are still a big attraction to a player like Silvestre who, at 27-years-old, knows that he is in his peak and the next two years or so of his career are huge.

The Argentinean defender made 29 appearances in Italy’s top flight last season, scoring an impressive five goals.

Silvestre may feel as though a run of good performances for a side of Inter’s stature may see him noticed for his country and he could perhaps compete in the 2014 World Cup.

Andrea Stramaccioni would welcome Silvestre into his side as he looked to build a team that can challenge for the league title.
