Inter have secured the services of Australian centre-back Trent Sainsbury from Jiangsu Suning on loan until the end of the season.

The Serie A side were keen to bring in a new defender after allowing Andrea Ranocchia to join Hull City on deadline day and have turned to Sainsbury to fill the void left by the Italy international.

The 25-year-old started his professional career with Central Coast Mariners and also wore the jersey of PEC Zwolle before joining Jiangsu in January 2016.

But Sainsbury was deemed surplus to requirements at the Chinese Super League side (CSL) due to recent regulation changes allowing CSL clubs to field just three foreign players and they have now opted to send him to Inter for the remainder of the 2016-17 campaign.

Both Jiangsu Suning and Inter are owned by Suning Holdings Group

Sainsbury follows Atalanta’s Roberto Gagliardini in joining Inter on loan in the January transfer window.
