Inter step up chase for Widmer

Serie A leaders Inter Milan are stepping up their efforts to sign Udinese full-back Steve Widmer, La Gazzetta dello Sport has suggested.

It is no secret that Roberto Mancini is far from happy with his right-back options and signing a right-sided defender is the priority at the moment.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are hot on the trail of Steve Widmer, the player followed by few other top Italian sides.

While Inter are not prepared to meet Udinese’s €15 million valuation, they hope to agree a loan deal with an option to buy and seem ready to send youngster Assane Gnoukouri in the opposite direction.

The two clubs had a new meeting on Thursday and there is a chance an agreement will be reached in the coming days.

Steve Widmer, 22, joined Udinese from Granada in July 2013 and has since managed 2 goals in 64 league appearances.
